2. A Legacy of Craftsmanship Shortly

The Ajrakh printing technique traces its roots back to the 16th-century Indus Valley, nurtured by the Khatri artisan communities of Kutch (Gujarat) and Sindh. Derived from the Arabic word Azrak (meaning blue), Ajrakh celebrates geometric symmetry inspired by the cosmos, nature, and spiritual harmony. Traditionally, artisans use a 14–16 step process involving natural indigo, pomegranate, madder root, and iron acetate, with each block carved from teak wood and stamped by hand.

Paired with this heritage is Modal fabric, a modern, sustainably sourced textile derived from FSC-certified beechwood pulp. Known for its silk-like fall and exceptional breathability, Modal bridges ancient craft with contemporary comfort. The accompanying Kutchi handwork reflects the tribal storytelling tradition of Gujarat, where women artisans stitch vibrant geometric patterns, mirror accents, and thread embroidery passed down through generations. Saree Story with Shanmuga Priya & Azhagi curates this union of heritage and sustainability, ensuring every saree carries a living legacy.
