2. A Legacy of Craftsmanship Shortly

Ajrakh is not just a textile technique—it’s a living chronicle. With roots stretching back over 4,000 years to the Indus Valley civilization, Ajrakh (derived from the Arabic Azrak, meaning blue) traveled through Sindh before finding its artistic home in Gujarat and Rajasthan. Traditionally, artisans use a complex resist-dyeing process involving natural indigo, pomegranate rind, iron-rich mud, and repeated hand-stamping with carved wooden blocks. Each saree can undergo 14–21 washing and dyeing cycles, taking weeks to complete.

At Saree Story with Shanmuga Priya & Azhagi, we preserve this heritage by collaborating directly with third-generation block-printing families. Our Mul Cotton Ajrakh Handblock Print Saree merges ancient technique with modern comfort, offering you a wearable piece of cultural history. Every fold carries centuries of patience, precision, and poetic symmetry—crafted not for mass production, but for mindful living.

4. Wash Care etc

🧼 Wash Care & Maintenance
  • Always hand shampoo wash using a mild liquid detergent or gentle shampoo
  • Soak in cold/lukewarm water for 10–15 minutes; avoid rubbing, wringing or machine washing
  • Dry in its shadow in a well-ventilated area – don’t directly expose in sunlight to preserve natural dye vibrancy
  • Iron on low/medium heat while slightly damp; place a thin cotton cloth between iron & fabric to protect the print
  • Store folded in breathable cotton/muslin bags with natural moth repellents like dried neem leaves or cedar
🔹 Note: Minor block misalignments, natural color variations & slight texture differences are authentic markers of handmade Ajrakh printing.
